DNA sequencing output

If you have DNA sequence produced from a PCR product or an EST library, the sequence of your DNA segment(s) will usually be emailed to you. Depending on the facility and your needs, the output might be in the form of a chromatogram (see earlier slide), or a simple text file of G, A, C, and Ts as in the example below.


If the data is in chromatogram form, you will need to read the bases yourself, either manually or, more typically, using a software program.


If you retrieve a sequence from a public database, it will already be in text format.
