How did genomics start?

Genomics became possible thanks to parallel advances in technology and molecular biology.

The cornerstone was the discovery of the structure of DNA, with its four bases (adenine, guanine, cytosine, and thymine, familiarly known as A,G,C, and T) arranged in a particular order (sequence) (Watson & Crick, 1953).
