The first step

Usually the first thing to do with a sequence or group of sequences is to compare them to other sequences and look for similarities or differences.

This can provide information or allow inferences on evolution, gene function, gene origin, etc.

This is now possible because millions of sequences are now available for hundreds of organisms. Most of these are publicly available, stored in databases.....
