Using databases

Although so much data is now freely available in a wide variety of databases, it is often difficult to determine how to use the data.

Some database websites include relevant software tools, but often these databases have been created specifically for the laboratory which has generated the data (and its collaborators), so it can sometimes be difficult to find specific data or know how to take advantage of the data available.

Looking for specific information in a database is called querying, searching, or database mining.
