One of the most widely used databases is GenBank, a DNA sequence database hosted by NCBI http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/ .

In addition to GenBank, NCBI also hosts a searchable literature database, a huge amount of other information, and free tools such as BLAST, which we will look at in the following slides.
