Analysis of microarrays

These data are being analyzed to:

- Compare the expression of genes in a particular tissue of the fruit.

- Identify regulatory mechanisms behind the ripening process, which is critical for the determination of fruit quality and/or nutritional content.

Some other examples of discoveries using microarrays in plants:

- The identification of the pathways involved in cold tolerance in Arabidopsis (Fowler & Thomashow, 2002).

- The identification of an acyl transferase which contributes to flavor development in strawberry (Aharoni et al., 2000).
