Manual emasculation
Manual emasculation is seldom practical on a large enough scale. It works best when the male flower is physically separated from the female, but this only occurs in cross-pollinators .
It is used where:
- the value of the crop is high (eg vegetables, ornamentals)
- a single pollination can produce a large number of seeds (eg tomato)
