Genomes by Environment Dataset Now Publicly Accessible

January 27, 2017

A unique dataset that directly links crop genotype and phenotype information with environmental data is now publicly accessible in the CyVerse Data Commons.

CyVerse is an initiative funded by the United States National Science Foundation’s Directorate for Biological Sciences, and led by the University of Arizona, with a mission to transform science through data-driven discovery by designing, deploying, and expanding cyberinfrastructure for life sciences research, and training scientists in its use.

The dataset was compiled by collaborators of the Genomes by Environment (GxE) subproject of the Genomes to Fields Initiative (G2F), which aims to catalyse and coordinate research linking genomics and predictive phenomics to generate agricultural and social advancements.

The goal of GxE is to collect and make available large-scale datasets that connect crop productivity with environmental data. The datasets could improve scientists’ understanding of this interaction and ultimately to the development of crops that are better able to survive climate change.

CyVerse is a key partner of the Integrated Breeding Platform. Registered IBP uses can access CyVerse resources, including the Data Commons, using their IBP user credentials. Read more on this development on the CyVerse Portal.
