Disadvantages of MAB: Costs
Using molecular markers requires the use of specific laboratory equipment, at the very least a PCR (polymerase chain reaction) thermalcycler and electrophoresis and visualization equipment. So start-up costs can be high, although these may be compensated for by later savings (and prices of the necessary equipment and reagents have been decreasing over time).
