EXTENDED: IBP Job Announcement: Business Analyst

The Integrated Breeding Platform (IBP – www.integratedbreeding.net) provides the tools, services and
knowledge that plant breeders need to run their day-to-day operations. The IBP aims at supporting the
modernisation of breeding programmes, particularly in developing countries of Africa and Asia, to help them
generate concrete outputs for smallholder farmers across the developing world.

Its flagship product, the IBP Breeding Management System (BMS), is a comprehensive suite of software
tools for crop breeding. It is designed to help breeders manage their breeding programmes more efficiently
so that they may develop improved cultivars faster and at lower cost.

The IBP is now entering a phase of renewed focus on product development, with the goal to have the BMS
software suite meet industry standards in terms of capacity and performance. In this context, the IBP is
looking for a results-driven Business Analyst who will enjoy taking part in a multiparty and interdisciplinary
unit, to help bring the BMS to the next level of functionality and performance. We believe it will result in an

Key responsibilities

  • Elicit, document, prepare and manage business requirements package for stakeholder sign-off and delivery to technical teams (who will translate into technical requirements and artifacts for solution design and delivery)
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and maximize opportunities to use information and technology to improve product, service and processes.
  • Work with stakeholders to address any conflicting business needs
  • Facilitate business process mapping and business stakeholder sessions.
  • Ensure accuracy of functional requirements/specifications for handoff to development team.
  • Follow up on business requirements through the whole development cycle
  • Collaborate with application design to ensure effective translation of requirements into specifications
  • Build relationships with stakeholders by building trust and creating a credible partnership.
  • Verify that the implemented solution meets the requirements and functional specifications
  • Facilitate and lead workshops that generate awareness of problems, opportunities and ideas for solutions
  • Ability to work in an Agile environment using clear user stories, features and epics, producing acceptance criteria which are clear and which will form an input to testing

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Full English proficiency both written and spoken
  • Minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience from a large private plant breeding company and enterprise breeding information systems is highly preferred
  • Demonstrable ability to analyze complex and abstract product requirements originated from a geographically and vision diverse user base.
  • Proven experience working with delivery teams on large-scale
  • Proven experience facilitating and prioritizing software projects with varying degrees of complexity and criteria
  • Experience with modeling business processes using a variety of tools and techniques
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including the ability to build relationships as well as manage competing demands
  • Experience in Agile environments ?

Conditions & Benefits

The position is for an initial fixed-term contract of one year depending on fund availability, project priorities
and performance. The position will be based at IBP headquarters, which are hosted at CIMMYT’s main
campus in Texcoco, Mexico (45km northeast of Mexico City) – CIMMYT is a not-for-profit research and
