PhD Research Scholarships at CIMMYT's Asia Regional Maize Program

The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre (CIMMYT) is seeking two young, innovative and highly motivated plant/agricultural researchers to work on the development of climate resilient maize germplasm in the the United States Agency for International Development-funded Project on Heat stress Tolerant Maize for Asia (HTMA).

To be eligible, applicants must hold an M.Sc. in Agriculture or Plant Sciences in Genetics & Plant Breeding or Crop Physiology, with specialisation in stress physiology.  They must be registered for a Ph.D. program at a reputable institution/university in the HTMA Partner Countries – Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan. They will be required to submit an endorsement by their PhD Program Supervisor and the Head of their Institution/University. They must be proficiency in both spoken and written English, and should not be above the age of 35 at the time of applyng.

The selected HTMA Research Scholars will be involved in a research programme focused on developing heat-stress tolerant maize germplasm for South Asia as part of their PhD program. The work will be done in collaboration with and under the guidance of a multi-disciplinary CIMMYT Asian Regional Maize Program team, headquartered at the ICRISAT campus, Patancheru, Hyderabad, India.

The scholarship benefits will cover three years, and encompass research costs (including international/local travel, as required and applicable); a monthly stipend (based on the stipend provided, if any, by the sponsoring Institution/university or a funding agency in the respective country); laboratory and office support as required; a book allowance; a computer; and, PhD tuition fees as may be applicable.
