Virtual Workshop on Low-Latitude Soybeans

February 9, 2015

The Soybean Innovation Lab (SIL) is hosting a virtual workshop on low-latitude soybeans on 26th February 2015 from 2 – 5PM GMT (West Africa time: 3PM – 6PM; Central Africa Time: 4PM – 7PM and East Africa Time: 5PM – 8PM).

The workshop will bring together SIL researchers and collaborators to discuss issues related to soybean adaptation to low-latitude environments, including determinate and semi-determinate growth habits, long juvenile traits, photoperiod response of American lines in Africa, and African soybean breeding experiences.

Participants can register online for the workshop.

The Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Soybean Value Chain Research is dedicated to soybean research for development.  Its international team of tropical soybean experts provides direct technical support to researchers, private sector firms, non-governmental organizations, extension workers, agronomists, economists, funders and technicians involved in soybean development. Like other Feed the Future initiatives, SIL is focused on smallholder farmers, particularly women – supporting partner countries in developing their agricultural sectors to spur economic growth that increases incomes and reduces hunger, poverty and under-nutrition.

The work of the Soybean Innovation Lab (SIL) is built around four pillars: Genetic Improvement, Crop Productivity and Quality, Nutrition (Livestock and Human) and Value Chains & Socio-Economic Research. It brings together leading U.S. and African soybean researchers, both natural and social scientists, to provide a sound research foundation to achieve the development-to-commercialization process of soybean in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA).
