Internet Download or Request DVD by Mail 

Select Download the BMS from the IBP portal. Alternatively, if you have a slow or unreliable internet connection you can request a DVD of the BMS by contacting ibp@cgiar.org. A DVD will be mailed to you within 24 hours of your request. 

Login using your iPlant Collaborative username and password.  If you do not yet have iPlant account, you will need to open an account to obtain a username and password.

Download & Install Application

Once logged in select Download the BMS Application.

Depending on your browser settings you may be asked to choose a file directory to store the Applications Installer, otherwise the installer will be saved in your downloads folder. Open the file to launch the executable installer.

Select Run to allow the application to open. You will need administrator privileges to install the BMS on your computer.

Select a language.

Depending on your user account settings you may be asked to allow the program to make changes to your computer.  Select Yes.

New Installation

If you have never had the BMS installed on your computer, or you have done a complete uninstall, you will see the following window. Select Next to proceed.

Accept the terms of the license agreement and select Next to proceed.

C:Breeding Management System is the default destination for the Breeding Management System application files.  Keep the default destination and select Next to proceed.

Update

You will want to update as new versions of the BMS are made available or if you want to add a new crop to your existing installation. If the BMS is already installed on your computer, the installer will detect it. Select OK to proceed.

The installer will update the existing directory by default.  This will re-write all of the relevant files within the existing Breeding Management System folder with the exception of Backups.  We recommend that you frequently save backup files in several locations, particularly before updating the BMS. Select Next to proceed.

Accept the terms of the license agreement and select Next to proceed.

Install Components

Review the selected components.  Infrastructure and the BMS Applications, including the workbench, are selected by default.  You need to select the appropriate crop databases to include the crop-specific ontology, templates, and historical data with the installation.  If your crop of interest is not listed, you will be able to run the BMS with a generic crop database (see more on Adding and Managing Programs).

Creating a desktop icon is selected by default.  Leave selected if you would like a desktop icon icon and select Next.

Flapjack file  associations are selected by default and allow Flapjack visualization of genotype data.  Select Next to proceed.

Monitor installation by watching the green progress bar. Installation will take a few minutes depending on your internet speed. Select the Cancel button to stop installation at any time.

Installation progress will pause until you select OK to allow MySQL on your firewall.

Checking the Run the Breeding Management System box will launch the program after the Finish button is selected.

All of the Breeding Management System manual topics and tutorials are online at www.integratedbreeding.net. However, if you have poor internet connectivity or want to access the materials in the field, you can download a web-mirror of the training materials and example files for off-line browsing.

While logged in, select the Download the BMS Documentation button.

Open the file to launch the executable installer. You need administrator privileges to install the BMS on your computer. Depending on your user account settings you may be asked to allow the program to make changes to your computer.  Select Yes.

Select a language.

Select Next to continue.

The documents installer will place the Documents and Examples folder within the Breeding Management System Folder by default. Choose the appropriate destination folder and select Install to proceed.

Monitor installation by watching the green progress bar. Installation will take a few minutes depending on your internet speed. You can cancel the installation at anytime by selecting the Cancel button.

Select Finish. The manual and tutorials will be accessible off-line by selecting the ? button from the top banner. Select BMS Manual HTML Version.

You may need to clear your browser's cache to see the offline Manual and Tutorials.
